Brahma Temple- Pushkar

Sitting at a high pedestal at the western edge of the lake and at one end of Main Street, the Brahma Temple structure dates back to the 14th Century. On creating the lake, Lord Brahma- the creator of the universe- performed a yajna/ fire-ritual in the presence of all gods. However, when his consort, Saraswati, could not reach the yagna in time, he married a local Gujjar girl, Gayatri, and completed the ceremony with her besides him. At this sight of Gayatri sitting at her rightful place, she cursed that her husband can only be worshipped in Pushkar and anyone offering prayers outside Pushkar will not be answered. So by the measure the only Brahma Temple in the world being here, Pushkar is the center of the universe!

Behind the temple is the Pushkar desert and the site of the Pushkar Camel Fair. Camel rides can be experienced here.
