Description

Pushkar is sprinkled with close to 500 temples of various communities many date back to more than 200 years old and are built in styles representing their community and times. Varah temple, built in the 12th century in Dravidian temple style is dedicated to Lord Varah, the boar deity, Lord Vishnu’s most famous incarnations. When the demon Hiranyaksh tried to sink the earth beneath the water to irk the gods, Lord Vishnu incarnated as a wild boar and saved the earth on its horns pulling it out of the cosmic ocean. A short walk away is Old Rangji Temple. Dedicated to Lord Ranga, one of the tripartite gods, another avatar of Lord Vishnu is one of the most prominent temples in the town. Built in 1844 AD, the Ranganath Venugopal Temple is an outstanding example of architecture combining the Dravidian and Rajasthani styles. Join Inder Narayan Sharma, a national level certified guide, walk you around some of the most beautiful ancient temples in Pushkar while giving you some insights on the Vedas.
