The Sultan ordered the mosque to be built within 60 hours and the workers worked day and night but were only able to construct a screen wall so that the sultan could offer his prayers. A beautiful example of early Indo- Islamic architecture, with soaring columns and deep archways, this was used as a mosque until 1947 and it was then taken over by Archaeological Survey of India. It has 10 domes, which are supported by more than 100 pillars. The walls of the main hall are chiselled into small screens to allow sunlight to enter. The mosque’s interior has a main hall supported by numerous richly decorated columns.
